Over 120 Years of Service
In 1904, the Britannia Beach Mining and Smelting Co. signed up the first members of the Britannia Beach Volunteer Fire Department — basically, every employee of the mine was an on-call firefighter, ready to respond when the sirens atop phone poles in the village sounded.
Proudly Serving the Sea to Sky
Today, the BBVFD is composed of a team of nearly 40 volunteers and responds to a growing number of emergency calls – fires, medical emergencies, motor vehicle incidents, interface fires as well as hosting educational and community service events. The BBFFD operate under the authority of the Squamish-Lilloet Regional District (SLRD) through the Howe Sound East Fire Protection Service Establishing Bylaw 1032-2006.
The Britannia Beach Volunteer Fire Department jurisdiction runs from the southern boundary of the District of Squamish (just north of Browning Lake at Murrin Provincial Park), southwards to the northern boundary of the Village of Lions Bay (at the Porteau Cove overpass).
A new 4-bay drive-through Station 2 will be built in Furry Creek starting in 2026. If you’re a Furry Creek resident who’s thinking about contributing back to your community, we would love to have you join our team. Training will take place at our Britannia Beach location until the Furry Creek station is action-ready, however we’ll need qualified and trained members on site when those shiny doors open!
